It’s August which means it’s almost time for pumpkins, mums, and sweater weather! When I had my prop shop, August was prime pumpkin knitting month. I think my record was 24 pumpkins hats in the month of August. I typically offered 2 options, Pumpkin Spice Beanie (That pattern is coming to the blog next week!) and this beanie, Cable Pumpkin Beanie. It’s a pumpkin hat with a twist… literally!
The big wide cables are the focal point of this sweet hat. Those cables give this hat a more vintage feel in my opinion. And I always used a darker more heathered orange instead of the bright orange typically seen. But my typical customer was using a more neutral color palette. I have seen Cable Pumpkin Beanie in brights and it was just as beautiful!
My favorite yarn for this pattern is KnitPicks brava. It’s very soft and has color options for everyone. Yes, it is an acrylic, but when you are making for babies, washable and next to skin soft are very important attributes. Any superwash merino like Cascade 220 Superwash Merino would be equally as amazing for this pattern.
