It’s the most wonderful time of the year! Hot chocolate and snow have already visited our home in Montana. Which means it’s snowman season. With 8 kids, I get a snowman out my window every time it snows. The pride they have when they complete it. But there’s a down side to making a snowman… the frigid temperatures.

If you aren’t a fan of cold but still wish to make a snowman, get your needles and some spare yarn because I have the perfect little knit for you! Mini Snowman Stuffy is a fast knit that can easily be completed in an afternoon while being tucked warmly under a comfy blanket and sipping your favorite warm beverage.

You’ll need a few yards of white sport weight yarn, a couple yards of an accent color for the hat and scarf, and maybe 1 yard of orange yarn or embroidery floss for the carrot now. I like to use safety eyes for my eyes and coal buttons but you can also use some black yarn and a do french knots for those as well.

I personally used these as photo props and sold many of them every fall. My etsy shop was always buzzing and singing a cha-ching while these were in season. I pray they do the same for you if you desire to sell them.

The best yarn for these, in my opinion is soft acrylic like KnitPicks Brava. You can purchase the yarn for this project here. And if you purchases a new skein you should be able to get several out of the supplies you buy. So you can make 1 for yourself and give several away as gifts, or keep them all and have a mini snowman army.

Materials and Info

Materials: Sport weight (size 3) yarn, size 4 (3.5mm) double pointed needles, yarn needle, accent color for “coal” and “carrot” OR safety eye for the eyes and coal buttons

Finished size – appx 6ins tall

Gauge – apps 6sts/in

Mini Snowman Stuffy Pattern

Body
CO 12sts leaving a long tail. Join in the round.
Round 1 – k around
Round 2 – kfb around (24sts)
Rounds 3-4 – knit around
Round 5 – [kfb , k1] around (36sts)
Round 6-25 – knit around
Round 26 – [k2tog , k1] around (24sts)
Round 27-29 – knit around
Round 30 – k2tog around (12sts)
Do not bind off. Cut yarn leaving appx 6-8ins. Thread the yarn through your
remaining sts and cinch closed. Stuff the body and set aside.

Head
CO 12sts leaving a long tail, join in the round.
Round 1 – k around
Round 2 – kfb around (24sts)
Rounds 3-5 – knit around
Round 6 – [kfb , k1] around (36sts)
Round 7-16 – knit around
Round 17 – [k2tog , k1] around (24sts)
Round 18-20 – knit around
Round 21 – k2tog around (12sts)
Do not bind off. Cut yarn, leaving several inches, and pull through remaining sts. Cinch tight and finish off. Stuff the head and attach to the body.

Hat
CO 30sts join in the round.
Round 1-3 – [k1,p1] around
Work in stockinette stitch until your work measures 1in from cast on edge.
Decreases
Round 1 – [k2tog, k8] around (27sts)
Round 2 – knit around
Round 3 – [k2tog, k7] around (24sts)
Round 4 – knit around
Round 5 – [k2tog, k6] around (21sts)
Round 6-8 – knit around
Round 9 – [k2tog, k5] around (18sts)
Round 10-12 – knit around
Round 13 – [k2tog, k4] around (15sts)
Round 14-16 – knit around
Round 17 – [k2tog, k3] around (12sts)
Round 18-20 – knit around
Round 21 – [k2tog] around (6sts)
Do not bind off. Cut yarn, leaving several inches, and pull through remaining sts. Cinch tight and finish off. Tack the end of the hat down to Round 3 of the [k1p1] edge. Place the hat on the head of the snowman.

Scarf
Cast on 4sts
Work in stockinette stitch for 9.25ins.
Bind off. Weave in ends. Tie the scarf onto the neck of the snowman.

Finishing
Add 3 french knots in black for the “buttons” on the body of the snowman. (You can also use safety eyes for this)
Add 2 french knots in black for “eyes” on the head of the snowman. (You can also use safety eyes for this)
Add a nose in orange for the “nose” on the head of the snowman.
