Get ready for twirls with a fun free skirt knitting pattern! THIS Ocean Skirt is below, but find even more at my free skirt pattern page.

If you love a project that’s both wearable and packed with fun details, you’re going to adore today’s free skirt knitting pattern. I don’t know about you, but when I finish a project and it’s something I actually want to twirl around in? That’s a win. And guess what? The Ocean Skirt (yes, THAT Ocean Skirt at the bottom of this post) is exactly that kind of knit!
But wait—before we dive in (pun absolutely intended), I also have a whole collection of free skirt knitting patterns waiting for you over on my skirt pattern page. You’ll definitely want to check those out too!
Now, let’s talk about this free skirt knitting pattern and why it’s become one of my absolute favorites to knit, wear, and—let’s be honest—twirl around the kitchen in while cooking dinner.

Why You’ll Love This Free Skirt Knitting Pattern
First off, the yarn. The Ocean Skirt is knit using KnitPicks Heatherly Sport (affiliate link), and let me just say—it’s a dream on the needles. It’s soft, lightweight, and has just the right amount of drape to make this free skirt knitting pattern come alive. Seriously, if yarn could wink at you, this one would.
This free skirt knitting pattern features a fun feather-and-fan inspired lace edging topped with a delicate picot hem. I mean, how can you resist a little bit of texture and flair right at the bottom? Plus, there’s an elastic waistband for that comfy, pull-on-and-go kind of vibe that makes handmade garments extra wearable.
And don’t worry about size limitations—the Ocean Skirt comes with instructions for XS all the way through 4X. Whether you’re knitting for yourself, your best friend, or your second cousin twice removed, this free skirt knitting pattern has you covered!

What Makes the Ocean Skirt Special?
Aside from the feather-and-fan goodness and the twirl factor (yes, I keep bringing up the twirling—it’s a thing), this free skirt knitting pattern is a grown-up version of my beloved Child Ocean Skirt. So if you’re into mommy-and-me matching outfits, this is your chance to make it happen!

Also, did I mention the yarn? Because once again, KnitPicks Heatherly Sport (affiliate link) shows up as the MVP. It’s soft enough for everyday wear but sturdy enough to hold its shape. I love how it gives the free skirt knitting pattern that perfect weight: not too flimsy, not too heavy—just right.
And if you’re a fan of knitting projects that are soothing but never boring, the Ocean Skirt is your new best friend. You’ll get stretches of easy knitting peppered with sections of simple lace that keeps it interesting. That means this free skirt knitting pattern is ideal for knitting while binge-watching your latest TV obsession.

Styling Your Free Skirt Knitting Pattern
Once you finish this free skirt knitting pattern, styling it is half the fun! Because the Ocean Skirt hits under the knee, it pairs beautifully with tucked-in tees, cropped sweaters, or even a lightweight cardigan.
Throw it on with sneakers for a casual look or dress it up with cute flats or sandals. You know a piece is good when it works for Target runs and date nights. (Just speaking from personal experience here.)
And since the Ocean Skirt uses KnitPicks Heatherly Sport (affiliate link), it’s comfortable enough for all-day wear, even in warmer months. You’re going to want one in every color!
