This Free Chunky Sweater Pattern is part of my collection of free sweater knitting patterns, designed to give you a warm, structured sweater that actually fits real bodies without the usual frustration.
If you’ve ever finished a sweater only to feel like the sizing was off or the fit just wasn’t quite right, this pattern solves that. The Peace Sweater combines simple texture, approachable construction, and updated sizing so you can knit something you’ll actually want to wear. It’s a Free Chunky Sweater Pattern that works up quickly, feels comfortable, and looks polished for everyday life.

If you’ve been wanting a sweater that feels simple to knit but still looks put together, this is exactly that.
It keeps your hands moving without overthinking every row, while still giving you a finished piece that feels intentional.
The texture does the work for you, so even the most basic stitches look elevated.
What materials work best for a Free Chunky Sweater Pattern?
For this Free Chunky Sweater Pattern, I used Premier Yarns Elle by Me Charlotte, which is soft, squishy, and ideal for chunky garments that still drape nicely. This yarn gives you that warm, substantial feel without making the sweater stiff or heavy.
You’ll need US 9 (5.5mm) and US 10 (6mm) needles to hit gauge, and stitch markers will make your life much easier when working through shaping. The chunky weight means faster progress, which is always a win when you’re knitting a full sweater.

This combination of yarn and needle size creates a fabric that feels balanced—warm but still flexible enough for everyday wear.
It’s the kind of setup that makes this project both enjoyable and practical.
How is this Free Chunky Sweater Pattern constructed?
This Free Chunky Sweater Pattern is worked bottom-up in pieces and then seamed, giving you structure and a clean, classic finish. If you’ve been nervous about sweater construction, this method breaks everything into manageable steps so you’re never overwhelmed.
The Peace stitch pattern is simple and repetitive, which makes it easy to memorize and relaxing to knit. You’ll move through the body, shape the neckline, and then add sleeves with gradual increases that build naturally into the final fit.

Taking it one section at a time helps the whole project feel doable, even if this is your first sweater.
By the time you’re finishing, it all comes together in a way that feels really satisfying.
