If you’re looking for the perfect companion to the Peace Cowl or the Peace Beanie, the Peace Ear Warmer is just what you need!

The Peace Ear Warmer: A Free and Simple Knit Ear Warmer Pattern

A Sister to the Peace Beanie and Peace Cowl

As a knitter, I love when patterns complement each other beautifully, and the Peace Ear Warmer fits seamlessly into the Peace set. This knit ear warmer pattern is designed for days when you want to wear your hair up—whether it’s in a high bun or a ponytail—but still keep your ears warm and cozy. For those days when you want to let your hair down, the Peace Beanie is always a great option.

The Peace Ear Warmer comes in three sizes: child, adult small, and adult large. This makes it versatile for gifting or creating matching sets for family and friends. The chunky bamboo blend yarn (affiliate link) adds a luxurious touch, providing softness and warmth without being bulky.

Yarn and Needles

For this project, I used Premier Anti-Pilling Bamboo Chunky yarn (affiliate link). It’s quickly become one of my go-to yarns for winter accessories because it’s durable, soft, and has a beautiful sheen. The anti-pilling feature ensures your finished piece will stay looking fresh even after multiple wears and washes.

You’ll need a size 10 US needle for this project, which creates a perfect balance between structure and stretch for the ear warmer. The stitches are simple and quick to work up, making this a great pattern for beginners or anyone in need of a quick-knit gift.

Why Choose the Peace Ear Warmer?

One of the reasons I designed this knit ear warmer pattern was to give knitters an option for practicality and style. Beanies are fantastic, but they’re not always the most comfortable choice if you’ve styled your hair or if you’re in a rush and don’t want to mess with it.

The Peace Ear Warmer is the solution to this dilemma. It keeps your ears toasty without flattening your hair, and it can even add a touch of flair to your outfit. Whether you’re heading out for a winter hike or running errands, this ear warmer is a versatile accessory you’ll reach for again and again.

Knitting the Peace Ear Warmer

This knit ear warmer pattern is straightforward, yet satisfying to create. The stitch pattern echoes the textured design of the Peace Beanie and Peace Cowl, creating a cohesive set when worn together.

I always start by knitting a swatch to ensure the proper gauge, especially when working with new yarn. For the Peace Ear Warmer, the chunky yarn works up quickly, and the stitch definition is incredible. Watching the texture unfold row by row is one of my favorite parts of the process.

This pattern includes instructions for three sizes, which makes it easy to customize. Whether you’re knitting for a child or an adult, you’ll find that the sizing is spot-on.

Styling the Peace Ear Warmer

I love how versatile this knit ear warmer pattern is. If I’m heading out for a chilly morning walk, I’ll pair it with the Peace Cowl for extra warmth. The combination of the ear warmer and cowl is stylish and practical without feeling too heavy.

When I want a more casual look, I wear it with my hair pulled back into a low bun. The Peace Ear Warmer provides just enough warmth for brisk fall or winter days while keeping my hairstyle intact.

Tips for Success with the Peace Ear Warmer

If you’re new to knitting or just want to ensure your project turns out perfectly, here are a few tips:

  1. Choose the right yarn: The Premier Anti-Pilling Bamboo Chunky yarn (affiliate link) is highly recommended for this pattern. Its softness and stitch definition really bring out the texture of the design.
  2. Check your gauge: Take the time to knit a swatch to ensure your stitches match the pattern’s gauge. This is especially important if you’re substituting yarns.
  3. Block your finished piece: Blocking helps even out your stitches and gives the ear warmer a polished look.
